Ronald Sakolsky, a retired American high‑school history teacher, is widely known as “Saikesi” in China. His special friendship with Yin Yuzhen began 27 years ago and has lasted to this day. Yin is a Chinese woman who fights desertification (沙漠化). In the early morning of August 23, 2026, Sakolsky arrived in Beijing. He planned to visit Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Henan, hoping to meet Yin Yuzhen in person at last. When they finally met, they hugged tightly and cried tears of joy.
Their story started 27 years ago. At that time, Sakolsky worked as a teacher in Luoyang Foreign Language School. He was deeply touched when he saw Yin Yuzhen’s story on TV. Yin spent most of her time planting trees to stop sand from spreading in the Mu Us Desert. Sakolsky managedto raise 5,000 dollars. With the money, Yin bought thousands of high‑quality young trees and planted large areas of forest in the desert. The money meant a great deal to her at that moment.
Time flew by. They had lost touch for more than 20 years and had not seen each other since 2000. In May 2026, Yin Yuzhen wanted to find her old American friend. Lots of Internet users joined in the search. Soon they got connected and met online. Yin invited him to come and see the green forest she had planted. “I am waiting for you in the desert,” she said. Sakolsky felt surprised and excited. He promised he would plant a tree together with her.
This trip carries special meaning for Sakolsky. When he taught in China, he received much warmth from local people. He brought Chinese stories to his American students. Now he returns to see the amazing changes of the land. He believes friendship can break cultural barriers (障碍). If two people from different countries understand each other, more people in the world can do the same. Their friendship keeps growing together with the trees in the desert.

1.1.How did Yin and Sakolsky feel when they met?
A Shy and nervous.
B Excited and moved.
C Tired and bored.
D Surprised and afraid.
解析:选B。根据第一段末尾“they hugged tightly and cried tears of joy”可知,两人见面时紧紧拥抱,并流下喜悦的泪水,说明他们既兴奋又感动。A项“害羞紧张”、C项“疲惫无聊”、D项“惊讶害怕”都与文中“喜悦的泪水”所表达的情感不符。故选B。
2.2. How did Sakolsky help Yin after he saw her story on TV?
A He gave her 5,000 dollars as a gift.
B He planted trees with her in the desert.
C He raised money for her to buy young trees.
D He asked his American students to help her.
解析:选C。第二段明确提到“Sakolsky managed to raise 5,000 dollars. With the money, Yin bought thousands of high-quality young trees...”,说明萨科尔斯基是筹集资金帮助殷玉珍购买树苗,而不是直接把5000美元当作礼物送给她,也不是当时就一起种树或让学生帮忙。故选C。
3.3. What can we infer about Sakolsky from Paragraph 2?
A He was very rich.
B He once lived in the desert.
C He was kind and warm-hearted.
D He knew a lot about farming.
4.4. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A How the two old friends reunited online.
B How people protect the Mu Us Desert.
C Why Sakolsky came to China.
D How to make international friends.
解析:选A。 故选A。
5.5. What did Sakolsky do with his Chinese experience?
A He wrote many books about China.
B He trained local teachers in Luoyang.
C He built new roads for desert areas.
D He shared Chinese stories with his students.
解析:选D。根据最后一段的“He brought Chinese stories to his American students.”可知,Sakolsky 将自己在中国教书时的经历化作一个个中国故事,分享给了他的美国学生,因此D项 “He shared Chinese stories with his students”与原文表述一致;A项 “He wrote many books about China”、B项 “He trained local teachers in Luoyang” 以及C项 “He built new roads for desert areas” 在文中均无对应信息,属于无中生有。故选D。
