The 20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are in full swing, and Team China is leading the gold rush. As of Sept 29, China has won 143 gold, 62 silver and 49 bronze medals — firmly at the top of the medal table.
Young stars are shining brightest: 19-year-old Zhang Zhanshuo, the “King of Seven Golds”, took 7 golds in swimming, set a new Asian Games record in the 400m freestyle and tied a 44-year-old record for most golds by one athlete at a single Games; 17-year-old Chen Yujie broke the 100m Asian Games record with 11.06 seconds, then anchored a stunning comeback to win the first-ever mixed 4×100m relay gold; 18-year-old javelin star Yan Ziyi rewrote the Games record with a first throw of 70.46m. China also broke 8 world records in shooting and weightlifting.
Today (Sept 30) brings 22 more golds: China’s diving team is chasing its 100th Asian Games gold in diving — since first competing in 1974, China has never lost a diving gold at the Games — and our men’s football team is battling for a place in the final. Let’s keep cheering for Team China!
