“Are you stuck in traffic?” Highways are packed, stations are crowded. So many people are on the move.

All those crowds are a sign that life is getting better. According to China State Railway Group, the 16-day holiday rail period is expected to handle 284 million passenger trips, with Oct 1 seeing the peak; passenger flow is highly concentrated on popular routes such as Beijing–Shanghai, and some tickets sold out right after release. Civil aviation is also expected to set a record for the period.

To keep everyone moving, the railways run a peak schedule of about 13,000 trains a day, plus late-night high-speed services; culture and tourism authorities have also launched a National Day consumption month.

Friendly reminder: Travel off-peak if you can, arrive early for trains, and if driving — follow the rules and stay off the emergency lane. Don’t let a jam spoil your mood; safety comes first. Wish you a happy and safe holiday!
