Milo, a six-year-old dog, is back to running and playing. A few weeks ago, he almost lost his life in a house fire. Firefighters from three towns came to help. When they arrived at the burning home, someone told them they heard a dog barking inside.

Firefighter Jessica Johnson went in and found Milo under a table in thick smoke. He was unconscious. He did not move or open his eyes.Johnson, who has a dog of her own, knew how much this meant. She picked him up and carried him outside. She could feel how weak he was, and she was very worried.

The firefighters acted fast. They gave Milo oxygen and tried hard to wake him up. For about five minutes, they kept working. Then, thank goodness, Milo opened his eyes again. He had been inside the burning home for at least eight minutes. Every extra minute made it more dangerous for Milo.

Now Milo is recovering at home. He has a slight cough, but the animal doctor says he will be OK. His family went to the fire station to thank the firefighters. “They are true heroes,” Milo’s family said. Milo got a second chance in life, thanks to a team that refused to give up on him.

1.1. What happened to Milo a few weeks ago?

A He hurt a firefighter.

B He nearly died in a fire.

C He was found by his owner.

D He went to the fire station.

根据第一段的“he almost lost his life in a house fire”可知,Milo几周前在火灾中差点丢了性命。

2.2. The underlined word “unconscious” in Paragraph 2 probably means ______.

A very angry

B quite hungry

C not awake

D deeply afraid

根据划线单词后的“He did not move or open his eyes.”和后文第三段“tried hard to wake him up”和“Milo opened his eyes again”(消防员努力把它唤醒、它终于重新睁开眼睛),可以推知unconscious的意思是“没醒着、昏迷的”,所以选C“not awake”。

3.3. What did Johnson do with Milo after finding him?

A Took him outside.

B Gave him water.

C Left him there.

D Called his owner.

解析:选A。 根据第二段的“She picked him up and carried him outside”可知,Johnson抱起Milo把它带出屋外。 故选A。

4.4. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?

A The fire spread very slowly.

B The fire did not hurt Milo at all.

C Firefighters worked too slowly.

D The rescue came just in time.

D “The rescue came just in time.”

5.5. What is the best title for the passage?

A Fire in a Quiet Town.

B A Dog Saved from a Fire.

C A Brave Firefighter.

D A Barking Dog in Smoke.

A 项 “Fire in a Quiet Town” 只强调火灾和城镇,文中并未突出“安静城镇”;C 项 “A Brave Firefighter” 只突出消防员,不能涵盖 Milo 获救和康复的完整内容;D 项 “A Barking Dog in Smoke” 只是文中的一个细节,不能作为全文标题。故选B。
