It all started with a single pair of Nike TNs and Connor Macdonald can remember it like it was yesterday.“I had to be a very good student and good boy at school for the semester, so that was my reward from my parents,” he said.“That was where my love started—I really wanted this pair of shoes, and I did well for a long time.”

His parents, Robbie and Georgia, could never have imagined what that reward would lead to.From that one pair, Macdonald’s place now resembles a “shoe museum” showcasing his love of lifestyle and casual shoes, a passion that has taken years and thousands of dollars in the making.

“From around age 14 or 15, I just started buying a few more here and there and that’s where my love grew,” he said.“Ever since I was a kid, I said if I was ever lucky enough to have one, I wanted a really big shoe collection, and I guess that’s what I’ve been able to do now.”

The collection started in his shoe cupboard, then moved into a room, until it finally burst into the living area and became a complete display.“The total number right now I’d say is about 140 or 145,”Macdonald said. Around 90 percent of the collection gets worn—some only on special occasions — but a few will never feel his feet.

But storing, displaying and moving about 145 pairs of sneakers—including a popular, rare pair —could not be forever. Or could it?“I think there’s potential to sell them one day in the future, or keep them,” he said.“Realistically, I’m not going to hold onto all of them but there will be a select few— perhaps that’s 20 to 40 pairs that have emotional value and I enjoy having them as a collector and I won’t get rid of them.” The Nike TN remains easily his favourite shoe.

1.1.Why did Macdonald receive his first Nike TNs?

A For helping his parents often.

B For saving his own money.

C For behaving well at school.

D For winning a running race.

根据第一段Macdonald所说 “I had to be a very good student and good boy at school for the semester, so that was my reward from my parents.”

2.2.What does the underlined phrase“that reward” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A His good grades at school.

B The first pair of shoes.

C His parents’ support and care.

D His love for casual shoes.

第二段中的“that reward”承接第一段内容,指父母因为他表现好而奖励给他的“a single pair of Nike TNs”,也就是第一双鞋。后文“From that one pair”也进一步说明“that reward”指的就是这双鞋,B对。

3.3.Where does Macdonald’s shoe collection finally stay?

A In his parents’ garage.

B In a real shoe museum.

C In the family living area.

D In a separate spare room.

根据第四段“The collection started in his shoe cupboard, then moved into a room, until it finally burst into the living area and became a complete display.”

4.4. What will Macdonald probably do in the future?

A Keep some special shoe pairs.

B Sell all his shoe collection.

C Stop collecting Nike TN shoes.

D Give all shoes to friends.

解析:选A。 根据最后一段的“I’m not going to hold onto all of them but there will be a select few — perhaps that’s 20 to 40 pairs that have emotional value ... I won’t get rid of them.” 故选A。
