I grew up in a little town in northeast Ohio. The 1 of how little people knew about Ohio came quickly after I went to school in central Pennsylvania. Though I lived 2 three and a half hours away, most of my classmates thought of Ohio as a whole different world. “Do you have to fly home? Do you live on a farm?” The 3 were never-ending. I was a 4 in their eyes.
As I grow older, I’m more and more 5 for my small town roots. Sure, my friends and I loved to 6 about how bored we were in the middle of nowhere; 7 , as I finish up my junior year of college, I’m convinced that it took 8 our small town to realize how much we actually loved it and what exactly we loved about it.
The pace of life is slow and people 9 connecting to each other. You do more than just talk to your neighbors — in a lot of cases, they’re truly an 10 of your family. Much of this 11 centers around being outside and knowing the ins and outs of the town; being present and mindful of your 12 is a critical part of the culture.
As I move through my college years, I 13 the visits to my little hometown. I am grateful for the 14 that I had growing up and know that wherever my next adventure takes me, I can 15 my small town roots to lead me in the right direction.
1.1.
A fantasy
B prejudice
C realization
D expectation
C。"The realization of how little people knew" 意为 "意识到人们了解之少",realization(认识、意识)描述从 "不知道" 到 "知道" 的认知转变,与后文同学们问出无知问题的情节吻合。A fantasy(幻想)、B prejudice(偏见)、D expectation(期望)均不表示 "认知的醒悟"。
2.2.
A only
B indeed
C still
D even
解析:选A。 B indeed(确实)、C still(仍然)、D even(甚至)均无法强化 "距离近却仍被误解" 的对比。
3.3.
A tests
B questions
C games
D debates
解析:选B。空前列举的 "Do you have to fly home? Do you live on a farm?"(你得坐飞机回家吗? 都是疑问句,即 questions(问题),与 never-ending(没完没了)搭配,表现同学对俄亥俄的好奇与无知。A tests(测试)、C games(游戏)、D debates(辩论)均不符合 "疑问句列举" 的语境。
4.4.
A success
B victim
C novelty
D problem
A success(成功)、B victim(受害者)、D problem(麻烦)均与 "被好奇围观" 的语境不符。
5.5.
A thankful
B hopeful
C suitable
D reliable
解析:选A。 be thankful for(对…… 心存感激)与后文 "convinced that we actually loved it"(确信我们爱小镇)的感恩基调一致。B hopeful(有希望的,与 for 搭配表示 "期待")、C suitable(合适的)、D reliable(可靠的)均不表示 "感激"。
6.6.
A dream
B lie
C hear
D complain
A dream about(梦想)、B lie about(撒谎)、C hear about(听说)均不符合 "少年嫌弃小镇无聊" 的语境。
7.7.
A therefore
B however
C instead
D otherwise
A therefore(因此,表因果)、C instead(相反,多用于替代动作)、D otherwise(否则)均不能体现 "少时抱怨→长大感恩" 的情感转折。
8.8.
A touring
B changing
C leaving
D protecting
C。"it took leaving our small town to realize..." A touring(游览 —— 游玩不会产生 "失去感")、B changing(改变)、D protecting(保护)均无 "远离后重新审视" 的含义。
9.9.
A value
B admit
C fear
D remember
解析:选A。后文 "they're truly an extension of your family"(邻居是你家庭的延伸)说明小镇人际关系紧密、被珍视,value(重视)与第三段赞颂小镇人情的主旨一致。B admit(承认)、C fear(害怕)、D remember(记住)均不能体现 "小镇人以人际关系为重" 的文化特征。
10.10.
A advantage
B example
C honor
D extension
D。 A advantage(优势)、B example(榜样)、C honor(荣誉)均无法表达 "邻居如同家人" 的亲密关系。
11.11.
A lifestyle
B landscape
C procedure
D personality
解析:选A。 B landscape(风景)、C procedure(程序)、D personality(个性)均无法涵盖 "户外 + 熟悉小镇" 的生活状态。
12.12.
A findings
B surroundings
C belongings
D greetings
B。be mindful of your surroundings(留意周围环境)与前文 "knowing the ins and outs of the town"(熟悉小镇的每个角落)呼应,都强调对所处环境的关注。A findings(发现)、C belongings(随身物品)、D greetings(问候)均与前文 "了解小镇" 的主题无关。
13.13.
A give up
B put off
C face up to
D look forward to
A give up(放弃)、B put off(推迟)、C face up to(勇敢面对)均为负面或中性动作,与 "期待回家" 的情感不符。
14.14.
A confidence
B reputation
C experience
D opportunity
A confidence(信心)、B reputation(名声)、D opportunity(机会)均不指向 "成长中的小镇生活本身"。
15.15.
A inspire
B trust
C remind
D challenge
B。trust...to lead me(信赖…… A inspire(激励 —— 需用 inspire sb.
