Fifth grader McKayla’s favorite subject is history. At her school, in Palo Alto, California, it’s not taught by a teacher. It’s taught by AI. McKayla attends an Alpha School. Founded in 2014, these are private schools built on an AI-powered learning model.
Some public schools are using less technology in class. In Los Angeles, California, public schools have strict new limits on classroom screen time. On September 2, New York City announced an AI ban for public primary and middle school students. But the Alpha Schools network is growing. There were 12 of them last school year. By the end of this school year, there will be 50.
At an Alpha School, students still sit in classrooms, but there are no teachers. Classrooms are led by adult guides who look after students as they finish their lessons on their own. Students use computers with AI software that teaches standard subjects such as math and writing for two hours a day.
McKayla enjoys Alpha’s “life skills workshops.” These make up most of the school day. The workshops, taught by experts or guides, teach kids skills such as money management and public speaking. Tasha Arnold, head of Alpha Schools, says the workshops are possible because AI allows students to get the standard subjects done quickly. “You’re getting what you need in your studies in a very short amount of time,” Arnold said.
There are lots of ways to learn, with or without screens. McKayla says AI is “a really fun way to learn” that lets kids go at their own pace, though other students prefer a more traditional classroom.

1.1.Who teaches McKayla history at her school?
A A classroom teacher.
B An AI program.
C A school guide.
D A history expert.
根据第一段的“At her school... it’s not taught by a teacher. It’s taught by AI.”
2.2.What is TRUE about Alpha Schools?
A They are public schools.
B They ban AI in class.
C They are growing in number.
D They stop using screens.
根据第二段的“But the Alpha Schools network is growing. There were 12 of them last school year. By the end of this school year, there will be 50.”
3.3. How do students spend most of their school day?
A Using AI for two hours.
B Taking exams on computers.
C Watching their adult guides.
D Joining life skills workshops.
根据第四段的“McKayla enjoys Alpha’s ‘life skills workshops.’ These make up most of the school day.”
4.4. What is Tasha Arnold’s opinion about AI at school?
A It takes too much school time.
B It helps students learn faster.
C It should replace all teachers.
D It is only useful for math.
根据第四段Tasha Arnold的话“AI allows students to get the standard subjects done quickly”以及“You’re getting what you need in your studies in a very short amount of time”可知,她认为AI能帮助学生更快完成学习,所以选B。
5.5. What is the passage mainly about?
A AI changes the way students learn.
B The history of Palo Alto schools.
C Why screens hurt young students.
D How to choose a private school.
解析:选A。 故选A。
