Zheng Qinwen made history at the China Open in Beijing on October 11, 2026. The 24-year-old beat Russian player Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 to become the first Chinese player to win the women’s singles title at the event. It was also her first WTA 1000 title, one of the biggest events in women’s tennis.
The final was far from easy. Andreeva, who won the French Open this year, had three chances to take the first set. Zheng saved all three and won the last 11 points to take it 7-5. In the second set she moved ahead at a key moment. She finished the match with a serve that her opponent could not touch. The match lasted one hour and 43 minutes.
The win meant even more because of the hard year before it. After Zheng won Olympic gold in Paris in 2024 and reached world No. 5, an elbow injury stopped her. Her world ranking fell to No. 160 by June 2026, and she could not win two matches in a row. She began to come back at the US Open in September, where she won seven matches and reached the last eight. Twice she was 0-5 down and still won.
Zheng said the home crowd gave her both pressure and power. “I always feel very proud to play in front of my home crowd,” she said. “I am truly grateful to the fans who have supported me all along.” That support filled the stadium. More than 450,000 people came to the China Open, 25% more than last year, and ticket income reached 132 million yuan, 48% more than last year.
The title was a big step for Zheng, and it also showed the growing strength of Chinese tennis. On the same day, Chinese players reached two finals for the first time in the event’s history. Zheng now goes to Wuhan with new confidence, and with a dream that came true in front of her home crowd.

A Easy and quick.
B Calm and peaceful.
C Hard and close.
D Short and one-sided.
据此C“Hard and close”最贴合。A“Easy and quick”与far from easy正好相反;D“Short and one-sided”与“挽救三次机会、7-5险胜”矛盾;B“Calm and peaceful”文中没有依据,这场比赛的关键分一直很紧张。故选C。
2.2. What does the underlined word “serve” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A A winning hit.
B A close match.
C A quick return.
D A long game.
解析:选A。 线索全在考点词的定语从句里:“a serve that her opponent could not touch”——她打出的这一击,对手根本碰不到,而且she finished the match with它,所以serve就是“对手接不到的一击、直接得分的一击”。C“A quick return”是“回球”,那是对手打的,主体不对;B“A close match”与D“A long game”说的是整场比赛的比分与时长,属于把邻句信息搬来当释义。故选A。
3.3. Why does the writer mention Paris and the US Open?
A To compare two big cities.
B To explain her love for tennis.
C To introduce two famous events.
D To show her hard road back.
第三段其实在铺“高点到低谷、再回到赛场”这条线:先用“an elbow injury stopped her”和“Her world ranking fell to No 160 by June”写她跌到谷底,再用“She began to come back at the US Open in September, where she won seven matches and reached the last eight”写她的回升。 D“To show her hard road back”才是写作目的。A“To compare two big cities”只看见两个地名,B“To explain her love for tennis”与
4.4. How does Zheng feel about playing at home?
A Nervous but excited.
B Proud and thankful.
C Confident and relaxed.
D Worried but hopeful.
判断她本人的感受,证据只能来自她自己的话:第四段引述“I always feel very proud to play in front of my home crowd”和“I am truly grateful to the fans who have supported me all along”,proud与grateful正对应B“Proud and thankful”。A“Nervous but excited”、C“Confident and relaxed”、D“Worried but hopeful”在文中都没有依据,其中C、D还与她夺冠后的心情相反——做态度题不能按“运动员应该是什么心情”去猜,必须回到引语找证据。故选B。
5.5. What is the passage mainly about?
A The China Open’s long history.
B How to become a tennis star.
C A Chinese player’s historic win.
D Zheng’s happy life in Paris.
