How did you spend your summer? How about rollerskating all the way to Tibet? That's exactly what Quanzhou College of Technology junior student Zheng Xu did, making the 2150-kilometer journey from Chengdu to Lhasa in 27 days.
Most people choose to take the journey by bike, but having been a member of a rollerskating club for three years, he decided it was the only way for him to do it. He started planning the trip in 2016, taking a part-time job to get money to buy supplies and equipment, and finally set off from Chengdu on July 8, 2017.
It wasn't an easy trip, with Zheng battling with speeding traffic, the weather and altitude. At one point he had to seek treatment in hospital. He took only necessities including food, some money, raincoats and shoes, and reduced the weight of his backpack from 24 kg to just 6 kg. But he made lots of new friends, meeting the Shanxi Medical University cycling team from Taiyuan along the way.
Zheng rollerskated the Gongga snow-capped mountains, and saw many spectacular views along the way. He says his trip was a great boost to his perseverance(毅力).
