In a funny adventure, Doubao, the capybara (水豚), escaped from a zoo in Yangzhou, China. During its escape, the animal enjoyed freedom and even grew fatter!
The escape happened on April 3rd. Doubao ran away with family members, but while the others were caught, Doubao stayed free. On May 11th, the zoo asked the public for help finding Doubao. They offered a free zoo ticket for useful information. People online jokingly called it “the cheapest reward (报酬) ever.” The next day, the zoo added a bag of rice and a box of eggs to the reward. Four days later, they offered even more: 10 boxes of frozen Yangzhou fried rice, two boxes of steamed bun gift sets, eight pieces of special merchandise, and a lifetime family card. The zoo promised this was their “final offer.”
Doubao’s adventure ended when it walked into a trap cage on June 3rd. The zoo at Zhuyuwan Park reported that when Doubao finally returned, its fur looked smooth and it gained 0.5 kilos of weight. Internet users joked that Doubao’s return saved the zoo a lot of money. Now the capybara family is back together. They spend their days happily relaxing in the water and warming themselves in the sunshine.
