Since 2008, a special TV program called “The First Class of the New Term” has been shown on September 1st every year. The 2025 program was no exception. The theme was “Remember and Strive (奋斗)”.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The program invited soldiers to share war stories and introduced young heroes like Wang Erxiao and Yu Lai. With the help of AI technology, old black-and-white photos were made clear and colorful. It felt like the young people in the photos were talking to teenagers today.
The show also told stories of heroes like Zuo Quan and Yang Jingyu. They fought bravely and never yielded. By sharing their little-known life stories, the program helped students understand what true bravery means.
In addition, Zhu Chengshan, former director of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre, spoke about this painful history. Registration forms, interviews with survivors, and old photos helped teenagers feel the hardships of that time. It encouraged them never to forget the past and to work harder for a better future.
The program reminds us: the best way to remember history is to pass it on, and the best way to pass it on is to strive.
