Nowadays, Post-00s often spend their holidays visiting the tombs of ancient figures instead of going out for fun. They bring special gifts to honor these figures, which surprises many people.
They use unique ways to express their respect. For example, Li Bai, a famous poet who loved drinking, has different kinds of wines at his tomb — white wine, red wine, beer, and even fruit wine popular among young people. At Zhuge Liang’s tomb, they leave flowers with small cards, writing down their admiration or small troubles. At Sun Quan’s tomb, some people place Hefei maps to remember his unfulfilled (未实现的) wish. Some people bring Nanjing’s water and soil for Li Yu (a former king) to show their feeling of missing; others take painkillers for Cao Cao, who had headaches and toothaches in old age. Fresh grapes are left for Cao Pi, as he loved grapes.
In Luoyang, a local guide named Wang Mian developed new routes for these visits. He doesn’t just take visitors to tombs — he also shares short stories about each ancient figure along the way, making trips more lively. Luoyang has many ancient tombs, so Wang checks each place first and takes visitors to 15-20 tombs a day. Most visitors are Post-00s, who know much about history — they talk about ancient poems or rulers’ stories easily, surprising Wang.
For these young people, tomb visits aren’t sad — they’re like seeing old friends, bringing comfort and keeping ancient culture alive.
