A big change is coming for many computer users. Microsoft has stopped its support for Windows 10. This happened on October 14, 2025. After this date, the Windows 10 system will not receive any more security updates.
What does this mean? Without security updates, your computer becomes less safe. It is easier for hackers to attack. Viruses and harmful software can get into your computer more easily. Microsoft will no longer provide free security updates or technical support for these issues.
Who is affected? If you are using Windows 10, your computer is at risk, no matter whether it is a home computer or one used in a business. Statistics (统计数字) show that in July 2025, about 43% of Windows computers were still using Windows 10. That is a very large number of people.
So, what can you do? Microsoft suggests you upgrade (更新) to Windows 11. For many people, this upgrade is free. However, not all computers are new enough to run Windows 11. If your computer is too old, you cannot upgrade it. For these users, there is another choice. You can sign up for a special scheme. It is called the Extended Security Updates (ESU). This scheme provides important security updates for one more year, until October 2026. It is not completely free for everyone. Some people may need to pay a small fee.
Some people are unhappy about this change. They say it forces them to buy new computers even though their old ones still work well. This creates more electronic waste and is not good for the environment.
