The last two giant pandas in Japan, Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei at Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo, will return to China in February 2026 upon the expiration of their loan period, marking a temporary absence of Chinese giant pandas in the country. They are currently the only giant pandas remaining in Japan.
