Shakhnaz, a Russian student in China, became a hero during her trip to Shaoxing. She saw an old woman fall into a river. Shakhnaz quickly jumped in and held her. “Relax (放松), I’m here!” she said in Chinese. People on the bank helped pull them out.

A camera recorded the rescue. Many called her brave online. Later, a fruit seller gave her free fruit to thank her. Shakhnaz has just graduated from Huzhou University. She loves Chinese culture and joined a lion dance team. She has a Chinese name, Simao. Though she graduated, she wants to stay in China. “I really love it here,” she said.
