The ceremony aims to show Chengdu’s endless energy and a China full of colorful dreams. Its creative team, led by experienced scriptwriter Qiao Wei, chose “colorful” as the central theme. This idea will go beyond bright lights and fireworks. It will include the natural beauty of the lake, green grass, the city skyline, and the changing sky from sunset to stars. Performances will blend perfectly into this park city background, creating a special Chengdu feeling. “It was challenging,” Qiao admitted, “but the open space offered amazing creative freedom.”

This “colorful” theme will also celebrate diversity and youth. The opening act will feature hundreds of young street dancers expressing pure joy. Athletes will enter the area in a relaxed “city walk” style, enjoying the lakeside atmosphere. Performances will highlight local culture, including Sichuan Opera face-changing and Sanxingdui archaeological finds. Even the audience will contribute to the lively spirit, with some watching from camping chairs by the lake. “We want expressions close to people’s daily lives,” said deputy director Huang Peiling. The historic torch-lighting, for example, will involve Chengdu-born athletes on a powerboat and water skiers.

The ceremony will focus on the fun spirit of sport found in everyday life – like evening frisbee (飞盘) or weekend climbing. Sports such as street dance, cycling, and water sports will be shown as pure enjoyment. Athletes will parade along a “starlit path” among the audience, under the open sky. “In a more confident China and Chengdu,” Qiao observed, “we see ourselves in international sport.” Young people will form the heart of this celebration, both on stage and in the creative team planning sessions. Their energy will bring the ancient city’s youthful passion to life, perfectly matching the World Games spirit where sport is effort, challenge, and life itself.
