At dance competitions, people usually watch only the athletes. Their perfect makeup, smooth movements and shining costumes attract all eyes. But during the Chengdu World Games’ dance event, the real star wasn’t dancing at all. It was a silver-haired judge standing quietly beside the floor. His natural elegance excited the whole Chinese internet.
Everything started when someone shared two photos of Sergejs Sinkins, the Latin dance judge, on Xiaohongshu. The post said: “Everyone who sees him says one word—‘elegant’.” In the pictures, Sinkins wore a well-dressed black suit. His silver-gray hair was tidy, and black glasses highlighted his sharp face. His tall, straight posture showed great grace.
These photos quickly became popular online, getting millions of views. People praised his “truly elegant” look and called him “a man with perfect body proportions”. Soon, he got a fun nickname: “Ferrari”. Like the famous car brand, people said he “never goes out of style”. This nickname became trendy after a recent movie. It reflects how handsome older men can still shine.
“I’m surprised by this sudden popularity in China,” said Sinkins, the experienced Latvian dancer. “I did nothing for this attention. You chose me—it’s amazing!” He shared that he received many kind messages online. “Chinese people around us create such warmth. They send friendly words to me and my colleagues.”
When asked about staying elegant and energetic, the 191cm-tall dancer explained his secrets. He has practiced dance since age seven and makes it part of his daily life. He believes dance sport is more than physical competition—it combines beauty, teamwork and personal expression. Dancers must learn to appreciate beauty in everything, from clothing to makeup.
Sinkins hopes this attention helps more people discover dance sport. “Anyone who wants to feel its beauty and energy is welcome,” he said warmly. Though leaving Chengdu after his first visit, he wishes to return both as a tourist with family and as a judge for future events.
