Xin Zhilei, a Chinese actress, recently won the Best Actress award at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. She became the third Chinese actress to receive this honor, following Gong Li and Ye Dexian. Her winning film, The Sun Rises on Us All, tells a touching story about love and fate.

Early Dreams and Challenges
Xin Zhilei was born in 1986 in Heilongjiang, China. She grew up in a poor family. Her father was once badly ill, and she had to work many jobs to help her family. She once dreamed of becoming a clothing designer but later found her passion in acting.

When she first started her acting career in 2005, she often played small roles. She once said, “I want to become an international superstar.” Many people laughed at her dream, but she never abandon.

Hard Work and Success
Xin Zhilei worked very hard. She played different roles in films and TV shows. In 2016, she acted in Crosscurrent, which was shown at the Berlin Film Festival. Later, she became famous for her roles in Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace (2018) and Blossoms Shanghai (2023).

In The Sun Rises on Us All, she played a woman with a difficult past. The film was shot in Guangdong, where the weather was very hot and humid. Despite the challenges, Xin gave her best performance.

A Message of Hope

When she won the award in Venice, Xin said, “This feels like a dream.” She encouraged everyone, especially young women, to follow their dreams: “If you have a dream, dare to dream big and go for it. Who knows — one day it might just come true, just like it did for me.”
