Do you often take trains? Here’s some great news: you can earn points when you travel, and these points can be used like cash to get free or discounted tickets! 

Starting from October 20, China Railway has upgraded (升级) its “Railway Travel” membership program. Different members earn points at different rates. Regular members earn 5 points for every 1 yuan spent on tickets. Members aged 60 and above receive 15 points per yuan. Meanwhile, members aged 14-28 now earn 10 points per yuan — twice the regular amount! Note that student discount tickets are not eligible for these double points. Another new feature: you can use your points to upgrade your seat on the train. Simply scan the “Railway Travel” QR code on your seat or ask the train staff for help. Please be aware that upgraded tickets cannot be refunded (退款) or changed, except in emergencies caused by the railway.

To become a member, you must be at least 12 years old. You can apply via the 12306 app, the official website, or at railway station service counters. Open the 12306 app, find “Railway Member” section, log in, and activate your membership. Once you have 10,000 points in your account, you can start exchanging them for tickets.

To exchange points, search for trains on the 12306 app. Look for the “兑” sign next to the train numbers. Choose “Points Assignee” instead of “Select Passenger,” fill in the required information, and complete the payment using your points. Remember, points are only valid (有效的) for 12 months from the date they are credited.
