School may be officially out for summer, but Books-A-Million is just getting started with a reading program to keep kids learning outside the classroom! Now through August 13, the bookstore chain is hosting its annual Summer Reading Adventure, a literacy challenge designed to improve the students’ achievement during the summer break. With a wide selection of popular books to enjoy and a special prize for reading, program participants can keep engaged, entertained and ready for a successful school year coming fall.
“Numerous research studies reveal that children experience learning losses when they don’t engage in educational activities over the summer, which can really set them back when the school season returns,” said Sandra Wilson, senior book buyer at Books-A-Million. “Our Summer Reading Adventure program is a simple way to motivate kids to continue learning and keep their brains active throughout the vacation break.”
James Patterson, who has written multiple best-selling children’s books, has been named the ambassador for Books-A-Million’s Summer Reading Adventure Club. The program’s reading list features 60 popular titles for both kids and teens, including “Jacky Ha-Ha,” “Public School Superhero,” “House of Robots,” “Treasure Hunters,” “I Funny” and more from “Middle School” book series. The reading list is available at all Books-A-Million stores or online at booksamillion.com.
To participate in the summer challenge, students must read any three books from the designated list and return a completed book log with their parents’ signature to a Books-A-Million store location by August 13. Participants who complete the reading challenge will receive a FREE James Patterson lunch box! For more information about the Summer Reading Adventure, please visit
