The government in Kenya’s Kakamega County is trying hard to find the cause of a mysterious illness that has reportedly left 95 girls at a girl’s high school unable to walk.
Over the past couple of weeks, 95 students from St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega have been sent to the hospital. That made people worry about a mysterious illness. Parents were also worried about that and they asked for answers and protection for their daughters. Videos on Kenyan social media show the girls have difficulty walking properly.
Bernard Wesonga, Kakamega County’s CEC for Health, said that blood, urine (尿), and stool samples (粪便样本) have been collected and sent for testing to determine the cause of the unknown illness. But so far, the exact cause of the mysterious illness has not been discovered. At the same time, the school has reportedly been closed indefinitely (无限期地).
The girls at St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School influenced by the mysterious condition reported their legs feeling numb. Some of them also experienced headaches, vomiting (呕吐), and fever. Luckily, many of them have already started getting better. “Some students feel better after taking medicine, while others are still under medical care,” Bernard Wesonga said.
The local government has advised parents to keep a close eye on their children, while health officials work to find out the causes of the mysterious condition.
