Ashwath Kaushik is eight years old. He is from Singapore. He triumphed over (战胜) the excellent 37-year-old Grandmaster Jacek Stopa from Poland last weekend in Switzerland.
“It felt really exciting and amazing, and I felt happy about my game and how I played, especially since I was worse at one point but I finally came back from that,” Ashwath said.
Ashwath’s journey into the world of chess began at an early age. His father, Sriram Kaushik, said that he learned the rules of the game at just four years old. “He picked it up on his own, playing with his grandparents,” Sriram Kaushik explained.
The young boy spends up to seven hours a day on chess. According to his father, Ashwath not only plays the game but also deals with long and difficult puzzles.
Ashwath finished the tournament in 12th place after losing his final game against IM (International Master) Harry Grieve. When asked if he wants to continue playing competitively (竞争地), he said: “Yes, till I win the first prize in the world.”
