Two men were friends. They traveled through a forest together. They promised (承诺) to help each other when danger came. They didn’t go far. A bear ran to them. One man was good at climbing. He quickly climbed a tree. But the other couldn’t climb trees. He couldn’t fight with the bear alone. So he pretended to be dead (死的). The bear came up to him, sniffed (嗅) at him, and left. Luckily, he didn’t get hurt.
After the bear left, the other man came down from his tree. He asked his friend what the bear said to him. “For I could see,” he said, “ that he put his mouth close to your ear.”
“He told me to tell you,” said the other, “that you were a great coward. We promised to help each other. But you stood by when I was in danger. I will not trust (信任) you.”
