On 30 March 2011, May 19 — the date when Xu Xiake began writing his travel notes — became China Tourism Day. Xu was a famous geographer and traveler of the Ming Dynasty. This year, the theme of China Tourism Day is “Experience Chinese Culture and Enjoy a Beautiful Journey”. The ancient city of Pingyao, Shanxi is the main venue(举办地) for the activities of China Tourism Day this year.
However, people’s travel habits have changed a lot because of COVID-19. In order to stay away from the illness, most people have accepted that they should not get together, not travel far, and should pay more attention to health. Traveling through new technical ways like VR(虚拟现实) has become a new way to see the world.
74.8 percent would choose to travel online according to the latest research. As many as 59.7 percent of people said that they had a good experience of online travel. 84.1 percent of people said it made their travel experience richer, and some of them added that online travel made them know the exhibits(展览品) better when they visited museums.
Traveling online has become popular since the outbreak(爆发) of COVID-19. “Through technical ways, online travel has been a new way of tourism industry and virtual(虚拟的) technology has provided more possible ways of showing the content of tourism,” said Li Baiwen, a professor at the School of Tourism of Beijing Union University.
