Reading can be a great way to pick up new words. However, for busy students, quality matters more than quantity(数量), or it’ll be a waste of time. Here, I’d like to recommend an efficient reading method—the Ten-step Comprehensive Reading Method(“十佳”阅读法).

The reading method is based on a WeChat mini program(微信小程序), where students of all grades can find lots of current news articles for extensive reading. The method can benefit you a lot before, while, and after reading, only if you read these English articles with it. Here is how that works.

First, a full-text recording is provided. It’s designed to improve your listening ability. You can listen both before and after reading. Before reading, it’s advisable to listen with questions and try to get the main idea of the text. After reading, listening can be a good way to get a deep understanding.

Then, both the online dictionary and the online notebook are offered. While reading, if you come across new or difficult words, just click on each word, and the Chinese meanings will show up. The online notebook is one of its biggest features. You can add the new words to your online notebook and go over them anytime.

After reading, choose the best answer for each question. Checking the answers and understanding why is also necessary. If you get the answer wrong, the “similar exercises recommendation”(相似题推送) can help you work on your weakness. The given words and sentences after reading can give you a hand with grammar too. If you want to improve your spoken English, 3-5 sentences are chosen for you to practice your pronunciation as well.
