Baby Centre of the UK has shown us its list of the most 100 popular names for baby boys and girls as well as the biggest naming trends(趋势).
This year(2022) the biggest changes can be seen in the top names for girls. Olivia has knocked off the number one spot(排名位置) from 2021, and Sophia becomes the number one. The top 10 has changed, with Olivia dropping down to third place and being overtaken(超越) by Lily. The ninth and 10th spots also welcomed new names for 2022, with Maya jumping up 10 places to number nine.
According to Baby Centre’s research, Love Islanders(真人秀节目《恋爱岛》嘉宾) past and present seemed to have a big influence on names. Baby Centre also noted that parents seemed to be returning to the 90s when naming their babies over the last 11 months. They chose to name their little ones after some of the famous persons in ten years, like Gabrielle and Aaliyah. The research also found that the names of the England Women’s football players were winning over parents after becoming UEFA Champions.
However, with all the royal(皇室的) news from the year, the experts noted that there didn’t seem to be a surge in the use of names from Britain’s most famous family — like Lilibet, William, Kate, Harry, Meghan or Charlie. Even Elizabeth, which rose up the charts for the half-year data, didn’t see much of an improvement in the full-year results, following the death of Her Majesty the Queen in September.
