Gillian Burnett and Garth Saunders got the call every parent fears. Their 20-month-old son, Waylon Saunders, fell into a swimming pool at the daycare. He was underwater for about 5 minutes. When he was finally pulled out of the water, he had no pulse (脉搏) and was technically dead.
Waylon was sent to a small hospital. Dr. Nathan Taylor says that everyone dropped everything and came to help. Waylon’s body temperature was very low when he arrived. Everyone from doctors to nurses and other workers took turns doing CPR (心肺复苏) on the boy for almost three hours. The whole time they had help on the line from the team in London. Dr. Janice Tijsenn, from London Health Sciences Centre, was on the phone guiding the team. When the child’s body temperature rose and his heart started beating on its own, he was sent to London Victoria Hospital.
Two weeks later, Waylon walked out of the hospital on his own two feet. “We are going home today!” his mother said. “This little boy has surprised so many. They don’t know how he’s progressed so well and so fast.” “Waylon is a little fighter,” a family friend said.
The family recently paid a visit to the doctors, nurses, and other workers to say thank you for saving Waylon’s life. These great medical workers really stepped up to turn a would-be tragedy (悲剧) into a miraculous recovery! Well done, everyone.
