As Lynn placed the crystal fragment into her pocket, a shadow moved across the temple wall. "Did you hear that?" Martha whispered, her breath quickening. The girls froze in silence.
Through a crack in the door, they saw two men in black uniforms—their faces covered with masks. "They must be the ones searching for the fragments," Lynn thought. Professor Cai’s voice suddenly interrupted via the crystal: "Activate silent mode! Don’t let them discover you!"
The men began to examine the ancient box. Martha noticed a lever behind a statue. "Pull it!" she mouthed to Lynn. With a soft click, a hidden ladder dropped from the ceiling. The girls climbed up as the men argued loudly below.
Reaching the roof, they found a narrow path leading to the forest. "We need to escape before they realize we’re gone," said Lynn. But the path ended at a broken bridge over a river. "Use the rope from the feast!" Martha remembered.
Just as they tied the rope to a tree, a stone fell into the water. The men looked up and pointed at them. "Run!" shouted Martha. They swung across the river, their hearts pounding with fear and excitement.
Professor Cai’s voice calmly instructed: "Head west. There’s a safe cave marked on your map..."
